As Israel’s biggest trading partner, the European Union (EU) holds immense financial leverage. Under the EU-Israel Association Agreement, Israel is legally obligated to uphold human rights. In June 2025, the EU officially found Israel to be in breach of these clauses. The path is clear: The trade agreement must be suspended.
The decision to suspend rests with the 27 member states. Italy and Germany have the decisive power to sway this vote. We call upon Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Chancellor Friedrich Merz to stop prioritizing trade over human lives. Every day of delay is a green light for continued war crimes and the destruction of healthcare facilities.
